We all know that constantly coming up with new ideas is not always easy. In the photography business it’s always about trying to create something that other photographers are not offering in your area.
That’s why I wanted to share this new airplane portrait we created for our Digital Creation’s Club. Some things you can create in the studio, but there are so many other creative things you can do using Digital Backgrounds and Props.
Here’s an example from one of our NPB Digital Creation’s members (David Hamilton Jones of Theatricalz-Studio).
Now…we all know that the baby is not flying over the buildings. But, your clients know that and are still Amazed at your portrait. It’s different and know one else is usually offering what you are creating. This makes you different and that should be your main focus as being a photographer.
Here’s another shot from the same session. They took the same subject and used the same Digital Prop and created another look for their clients to choose from.
The other thing that makes this shot really work is the outfit. You would be surprised at how much a little hat or jacket can really make and help the image stand out. You can usually find unique outfits and accessories here at Zulily. Lisa buys a lot of stuff through them and has never been disappointed.
I know a lot of you like to see the before and after shots to get an idea of what it looked like before the final image was created. So, I’m including them below.

I know a lot of you want to know how the lighting was set up for these shots. So, I created a simple diagram to show a visual and get a better idea of how to duplicate his results.
He used a large softbox (36″ x 28″) angled about 45 degrees and a muslin green screen background.
That’s It!
Then he used Photokey 5 to do the extraction. It doesn’t really matter how you do the extraction. You just want to have a clean extraction that can be used with the digital creation. I use a variety of techniques like I teach in my DBS 2.0 course and receive really good results. But…it really depends on what you are comfortable with and what software you have available.

Ok…I hope you see from these examples that it doesn’t have to be hard or complicated to help make yourself different. Remember that being unique should be your main focus and the rest will take care of itself.
