After posting the technique for Creating Light Rays, I decided to add another technique that can be used by itself or together.
If you missed the first Photoshop tutorial you can watch it here, or you’ll see another example at the end of this tutorial.
I decided to use one of our past Digital Creation’s that already had some subtle light in the background. This effect works best when there is already some light or brightness in the background.
This will give you an idea of where you want the light to come from and can then be positioned correctly and compliment the image.

As you can see there’s many different ways you could use this effect. There’s really no right or wrong way to using this, but you will want to learn how to apply this without taking away from the focus of your subject.
In my opinion it works best on Digital Backgrounds and Props that already have some type of lighting in the background already. But, that’s doesn’t mean there’s not exceptions.
The key with any Photoshop editing or photographer techniques is to practice and use it where you can to enhance the overall image. As you can see from the sample image that it adds a realistic look by applying this effect.
